  • Logrotate Successful, original file goes back to original size

    - by drewrockshard
Has anyone had any issues with logrotate before that causes a log file to get rotated and then go back to the same size it originally was? Here's my findings: Logrotate Script: /var/log/mylogfile.log { rotate 7 daily compress olddir /log_archives missingok notifempty copytruncate } Verbose Output of Logrotate: copying /var/log/mylogfile.log to /log_archives/mylogfile.log.1 truncating /var/log/mylogfile.log compressing log with: /bin/gzip removing old log /log_archives/mylogfile.log.8.gz Log file after truncate happens [root@server ~]# ls -lh /var/log/mylogfile.log -rw-rw-r-- 1 part1 part1 0 Jan 11 17:32 /var/log/mylogfile.log Literally Seconds Later: [root@server ~]# ls -lh /var/log/mylogfile.log -rw-rw-r-- 1 part1 part1 3.5G Jan 11 17:32 /var/log/mylogfile.log RHEL Version: [root@server ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 4) Logrotate Version: [root@DAA21529WWW370 ~]# rpm -qa | grep logrotate logrotate-3.7.1-10.RHEL4 Few Notes: Service can't be restarted on the fly, so that's why I'm using copytruncate Logs are rotating every night, according to the olddir directory having log files in it from each night.

  • chroot'ing SSH home directories, shell problem.

    - by Hamza
Hi folks, I am trying to chroot my SSH users to their home directories and it seems to work.. in a strange way. Here is what I have in my sshd_config: Match group restricthome ChrootDirectory %h The permissions on the user directories looks like this: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 May 11 13:45 [user]/ And I can see that the user logs in successfully: May 11 13:49:23 box sshd[5695]: Accepted password for [user] from x.x.x.x port 2358 ssh2 (with no error messages after this) But after entering the password the PuTTY window closes down. This is a wild guess, but could it be because the user's shell is set to /bin/bash and it can't execute because of the chroot? If so, could you give me pointers on how to fix it? Would simply copying the bash binary into user's home directory and modyfying the shell work? How would I deal with the dependencies, ldd shows quite a few of those :) Comments/suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

  • How to make PuTTY X11 forwarding work in a screen session?

    - by Alex Howell
I'm using PuTTY with X11 forwarding enabled, using Xming as my X server on Windows 7. When I SSH to a Linux host, X11 forwarding works fine. If I start a "screen" screen manager session, it still works fine. If I disconnect from the screen session, then later resume in a different PuTTY window using "screen -rd", X11 forwarding doesn't work any more - I get an error: xterm X connection to localhost:11.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown). This seems to be because $DISPLAY is different in each PuTTY SSH session (localhost:11.0 in the first session, then localhost:12.0 in the next, and so on). If I manually set $DISPLAY to localhost:12.0 in the screen session, X11 forwarding works again. Is there a way to automatically set $DISPLAY in the screen session, each time it's resumed, so that it always matches the parent PuTTY session's?

  • Linux route add between static LAN and Wifi Gateway

    - by Hamza
I have two local machines connected to each other via wired ethernet and one of those machines is also connected to a wifi network which provides internet access. A pseudo-graphical representation of the topology is as follows: (PC2)----------(PC1)---------(Wifi Gateway) 192.168.2.x 10.0.0.x The configuration on PC2 is: iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.2 network 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 ...and the configuration on PC1 is: iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.1 network 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 On PC1, I've added a default route for wlan0 as I couldn't access the internet otherwise: route add default gw 10.0.0.1 wlan0 And also tried setting the gateway for the 192.168.2.x network using: route add -net 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 10.0.0.1 But I still can't access internet from PC2. Edit I don't have access to the wifi gateway.

  • NFS denies mount, even though the client is listed in exports

    - by ajdecon
We have a couple of servers (part of an HPC cluster) in which we're currently seeing some NFS behavior which is not making sense to me. node1 exports its /lscratch directory via NFS to node2, mounted at /scratch/node1. node2 also exports its own lscratch, which is correspondingly mounted at /scratch/node2 on node1. Unfortunately, whenever I attempt to mount either NFS export on the opposite node, I get the following error: mount: node1:/lscratch failed, reason given by server: Permission denied This despite the fact that I have included first the IP range (10.6.0.0) and then the specific IPs (10.6.7.1, 10.6.7.2) in /etc/exports. Any suggestions? Edit to remove ambiguity: I've made sure that exports only contains either the range, or the specific IPs, not both at the same time.

  • How to calibrate a HDTV that is being used as monitor?

    - by Mike
I have a HDTV I am using as a second monitor. The first monitor, is a real computer monitor, not a TV and has a fantastic image. The second one, the HDTV has a good image, but it is a little bit blurred and has the problem you can see on the picture below, a kind of red halo around the edges. I think it has something to do with red contrast. Other colors show this problem too, specially the green. The problem is that the TV has no contrast adjustment. Instead it has something called IRE 10 points and IRE 2 points. Taking IRE 10 for example, it has 4 controls for each of the 10 points: luminosity, R, G and B. I could not find a page where I can understand what this IRE is and how should I adjust this. Can someone tell me how should I proceed to calibrate this TV for best picture? thanks for any help.

  • How to install Oracle's exp / imp binaries

    - by Sotapanna
I was browsing the net to find a solution, but I had no luck. :( How can I install Oracle's imp / exp binaries to my CentOS box without installing an Oracle Server? I'm accessing an existing Oracle database on another machine, so I only need a client here. I already installed sqlplus and its dependencies (oracle-instantclient11.2-basic-11.2.0.3.0-1.x86_64.rpm, and oracle-instantclient11.2-odbc-11.2.0.3.0-1.x86_64.rpm), but that didn't provide those tools. Do I really need to fully install Oracle? My aim is to suck a database dump from the Oracle to my CentOS box. If there is another way to do this without using exp I wouldn't feel bad about NOT using it, but it seems to me there is no alternative.

  • Dovecot ignoring maximum number of IMAP connections

    - by Michelle
I have a single mailbox mail server running Dovecot/Postfix and I have two IMAP clients, Thunderbird on the PC and K9 on Android. I keep on receiving this error in my logs even after I change the 'mail_max_userip_connections' variable to 50. puppet dovecot: imap-login: Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded (mail_max_userip_connections=10): user=<[email protected]>, method=PLAIN, rip=62.242.90.2, lip=198.29.31.229, TLS Why does it say that it is set to 10 in the log? Is that hardcoded? grep -r "mail_max_userip_connections" /etc/dovecot /etc/dovecot/conf.d/20-managesieve.conf: #mail_max_userip_connections = 10 /etc/dovecot/conf.d/20-pop3.conf: #mail_max_userip_connections = 3 /etc/dovecot/conf.d/20-imap.conf: mail_max_userip_connections = 50 I've restarted dovecot after making the changes but this error is still logged and I can't access the mailbox. Can anyone help me understand why I can't seem to raise the maximum limit?

  • SNMP counter issues with cisco RV082

    - by Chance
Does anyone else poll this router with SNMP? We are using firmware version: 2.0.0.19-tz We are having problems with the traffic counters, some of them appear to be implemented as 16 bit counter instead of 32 bit counters. The reason this is causing problems is that they roll over (at 65,000) to 0 in less than our minute polling cycle, really skewing our metrics. The counter for the Lan (interface 2) seems to be functioning properly, however interfaces 3 and 4 (WAN and DMZ / WAN2) rollover at 65000. • firehol (firewall) with bridge: how to filter

    - by Leon
I have two interfaces: eth0 (public address) and lxcbr0 with 10.0.3.1. I have a LXC guest running with ip 10.0.3.10 This is my firehol config: version 5 trusted_ips=`/usr/local/bin/strip_comments /etc/firehol/trusted_ips` trusted_servers=`/usr/local/bin/strip_comments /etc/firehol/trusted_servers` blacklist full `/usr/local/bin/strip_comments /etc/firehol/blacklist` interface lxcbr0 virtual policy return server "dhcp dns" accept router virtual2internet inface lxcbr0 outface eth0 masquerade route all accept interface any world protection strong #Outgoing these protocols are allowed to everywhere client "smtp pop3 dns ntp mysql icmp" accept #These (incoming) services are available to everyone server "http https smtp ftp imap imaps pop3 pop3s passiveftp" accept #Outgoing, these protocols are only allowed to known servers client "http https webcache ftp ssh pyzor razor" accept dst "${trusted_servers}" On my host I can connect only to "trusted servers" on port 80. In my guest I can connect to port 80 on every host. I assumed that firehol would block that. Is there something I can add/change so that my guest(s) inherit the rules of the eth0 interface?

  • How to restart RoR services after server has been rebooted

    - by Alan DeLonga
Update I have been searching around to see what services would possibly need to be restarted in my project after reboot. One of them was thinking sphinx, which I finally got to the point where it logs: [Fri Nov 16 19:34:29.820 2012] [29623] accepting connections But I still cant run searchd or searchd --stop because there was no generated sphinx.conf file in the etc/sphinxsearch for more info refer to this open thread on thinking_sphinx after reboot I then turned to looking into restarting unicorn or thin based on some insight I got. The issue is when I check my gems I see one for thin AND unicorn. But when I try to start either one of them they have no file residing in etc/init.d/ where the nginx and sphinxsearch files reside... Would rebooting totally erase the files for an app server like thin or unicorn? We are hosted on Rackspace running ruby 1.9.2p290 rails (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) nginx/1.1.19 notice that there are gems for unicorn and thin but there is no unicorn.rb or thin.rb in my config folder for my app... I am still super lost if any one can give me some insight on some steps to take to figure this out I would really appreciate it. Anything would help, thanks for reading. thin 1.4.1 unicorn 4.3.1 When I run unicorn I get the same issue as referenced here : > /usr/local/bin/unicorn start /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/unicorn-4.3.1/lib/unicorn/configurator.rb:610:in `parse_rackup_file': rackup file (start) not readable (ArgumentError) from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/unicorn-4.3.1/lib/unicorn/configurator.rb:76:in `reload' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/unicorn-4.3.1/lib/unicorn/configurator.rb:67:in `initialize' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/unicorn-4.3.1/lib/unicorn/http_server.rb:104:in `new' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/unicorn-4.3.1/lib/unicorn/http_server.rb:104:in `initialize' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/unicorn-4.3.1/bin/unicorn:121:in `new' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/unicorn-4.3.1/bin/unicorn:121:in `<top (required)>' from /usr/local/bin/unicorn:19:in `load' from /usr/local/bin/unicorn:19:in `<main>' When I run thin it just opens a command line prompt... /usr/local/bin/thin start >> Using rack adapter Other gems: * LOCAL GEMS * actionmailer (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) actionpack (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) activemodel (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) activerecord (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) activeresource (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) activesupport (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) arel (3.0.2) builder (3.0.0) bundler (1.1.5) carmen (1.0.0.beta2) carmen-rails (1.0.0.beta3) cocaine (0.2.1) coffee-rails (3.2.2) coffee-script (2.2.0) coffee-script-source (1.3.3) daemons (1.1.9) erubis (2.7.0) eventmachine (0.12.10) execjs (1.4.0) faraday (0.8.4) faraday_middleware (0.8.8) foursquare2 (1.8.2) geokit (1.6.5) hashie (1.2.0) hike (1.2.1) httparty (0.8.3) httpauth (0.1) i18n (0.6.0) journey (1.0.4) jquery-rails (2.0.2) json (1.7.4, 1.7.3) jwt (0.1.5) kgio (2.7.4) lastfm (1.8.0) libv8 (3.3.10.4 x86_64-linux) mail (2.4.4) mime-types (1.19, 1.18) minitest (1.6.0) multi_json (1.3.6) multi_xml (0.5.1) multipart-post (1.1.5) mysql2 (0.3.11) oauth2 (0.8.0) paperclip (3.1.1) polyglot (0.3.3) rack (1.4.1) rack-cache (1.2) rack-ssl (1.3.2) rack-test (0.6.1) rails (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) railties (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) raindrops (0.10.0, 0.9.0) rake (0.9.2.2, 0.8.7) rdoc (3.12, 2.5.8) riddle (1.5.3) sass (3.2.0, 3.1.19) sass-rails (3.2.5) sprockets (2.1.3) sqlite3 (1.3.6) sqlite3-ruby (1.3.3) therubyracer (0.10.2, 0.10.1) thin (1.4.1) thinking-sphinx (2.0.10) thor (0.16.0, 0.15.4, 0.14.6) tilt (1.3.3) treetop (1.4.10) tzinfo (0.3.33) uglifier (1.2.7, 1.2.4) unicorn (4.3.1) xml-simple (1.1.1) I am working on a project that was built by another group. The hosting is through Rackspace, we rebooted through the option on their site. I contacted them and checked the status of our server, the port is open and operational. The problem is the app is not running when you go to the address for the site. Then when I put in the ip address of the server it just says "Welcome to Nginx". But in a log files I see: [Thu Nov 15 02:34:37.945 2012] [15916] caught SIGTERM, shutting down [Thu Nov 15 02:34:37.996 2012] [15916] shutdown complete I am not very versed in server side set up. I have also never worked on a Rails project that had to have specific services started before the application will start. Any insight as to how to figure out what services need to be restarted and how to go about restarting them would be greatly appreciated. I feel kind of dead in the water at this point... Thanks, Alan

  • Replies to request coming over a relay goes to relay's internal IP, not to original request's source IP

Dhcpd running on Linux gets a dhcp request over dhcrelay which is running on other remote machine. However reply does not go to the requesting dhcrelay external IP(192.168.0.81). Instead, it goes to the internal interface IP of machine running dhcrelay. Internet - dhcpd - 192.168.0.1 - SOMENET - 192.168.0.81 - dhcrelay - 172.16.17.0/24 192.168.0.1 has no route for 172.16.17.0 and has no interface directly attached to that net.

  • How to find the /dev name of my USB device

    - by mustafa
I am running Ubuntu 11 on VmWare on Windows XP. I want to format an SD card in Ubuntu. But, I can't figure out which /dev/xxx device the SD card is. I plug the card into the built-in socket of my laptop. I "safely remove" the device in Windows. Then, I "connect" the PCMCIA reader in VmWare. Now, I was supposing to see a new device like /dev/sdx. But, it doesn't appear :( How can I find what the name of my USB device's name and mount it? /var/log/message is empty. • URL redirect to a virtual server on a VLAN

    - by zeroFiG
I have a production site, running off 10 servers. I've been given another virtual server on the same network as these 10 servers, to use for testing purposes. This server doesn't have it's own DNS entry. Therefore I need to do a redirect to the site hosted on this virtual server for a sub-domain of the site running on the 10 other servers. So Basically I was wondering how I would configure a sub domain of my production server to point at the Virtual server for testing. I'm guessing I need to modify my site file in /etc/apache2/sites-available and add another virtual host like the following and modify the redirect match: <VirtualHost *> ServerName SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com RedirectMatch 301 (.*) **IP ADDRESS** CustomLog /var/log/apache2/SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com.access.log combined </VirtualHost> Do I set the redirect match to just the IP on the Virtual server, and then configure another site file in the sites-available directory, which will recption this redirect and point the browser towards the HTML root? Thanks, I hope I made myself clear.

When I login into the site from my browser, it sets two cookie values: [email protected] Password=12345 I tried: wget --post-data "[email protected]&Password=12345" http://epaper.abc.com/login.aspx However, that just downloaded the login page and saved it locally The FORM on the login page has two fields: txtUserID txtPassword and radiobuttons like this: <input id="rbtnManchester" type="radio" checked="checked" name="txtpub" value="44"> Another button: <input id="rbtnLondon" type="radio" name="txtpub" value="64"> If I post this to the login.aspx page, I get the same output wget --post-data "[email protected]&txtPassword=12345&txtpub=44" http://epaper.abc.com/login.aspx If I do: --save-cookies abc_cookies.txt it doesnt seem to have anything other than the default content. For the last if I do --debug as well it says: ... Set-Cookie: ASP.NET_SessionId=05kphcn4hjmblq45qgnjoe41; path=/; HttpOnly ... Stored cookie epaper.abc.com -1 (ANY) / <session> <insecure> [expiry none] ASP.NET_SessionId 05kphcn4hjmblq45qgnjoe41 Length: 107253 (105K) [text/html] Saving to: `login.aspx' ... Saving cookies to abc_cookies.txt. However, abc_cookies.txt shows ONLY the following: # HTTP cookie file. # Generated by Wget on 2011-08-16 08:03:05. # Edit at your own risk. (Not sure why I'm not getting any responses on SO - perhaps SU is a better forum - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7064171/using-wget-to-download-pdf-files-from-a-site-that-requires-cookies-to-be-set) EDIT 1 C:\Temp>wget --cookies=on --keep-session-cookies --save-cookies abc_cookies.txt --post-data "txtUserID=abc%40gmail.com&txtPassword=password&txtpub=44&chkbox=checkbox&submit.x=48&submit.y=7" http://epaper.abc.com/login.aspx --debug SYSTEM_WGETRC = c:/progra~1/wget/etc/wgetrc syswgetrc = C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuWin32/etc/wgetrc DEBUG output created by Wget 1.11.4 on Windows-MinGW. --2011-08-18 08:15:59-- http://epaper.abc.com/login.aspx Resolving epaper.abc.com... seconds 0.00, 999.999.99.99 Caching epaper.abc.com => 999.999.99.99 Connecting to epaper.abc.com|999.999.99.99|:80... seconds 0.00, connected. • svn diff including annotate/blame-alike information of when changes where made by who

    - by Wouter Coekaerts
Can you add annotate/blame-alike information to svn diff, so that for every changed line it includes which user and revision changed that line? For example, an annotate-diff comparing revisions 8-10 could output something like: 9 user1 - some line that user1 deleted in revision 9 10 user2 + some line that user2 added in revision 10 The context, lines around it which haven't changed, may be included as well or not, doesn't matter. It's not just a matter of "quickly" writing a shell script combining the output of svn diff and svn annotate. annotate for example will never show you who removed a line. It's also not a matter of doing annotate on a revision in the past: We're not interested in who originally added the line that got removed (that's not the one who "caused" the diff), we want to know who removed it. I suspect the only way to implement something to do this is to inspect each and every commit between the two revisions being compared (and somehow map all the changes in the separate diffs to lines in the total diff)... Does there exist a tool that does something like that?

  • How to tell Windows 7 to ignore a default gateway

    - by zildjohn01
I currently have 2 network cards in my PC -- one connected to an internal network on a router with a disconnected WAN port (10.x.x.x), and one connected to the internet through a consumer router (192.168.0.x). Windows seems to recognize them correctly (my "Network and Sharing Center" lists them as "No Internet" and "Internet" respectively), however when I try browsing the internet it always tries the internal network's default gateway, rather than the one with internet access. Trying to ping a website results in "Reply from 10.0.0.1: Destination net unreachable.". A simple "route delete 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.1" fixes the problems, but they return upon reboot, or upon renewing my IP. Is there any way to tell Windows to ignore one NIC's default gateway, or to at least give them priorities?

  • How do I compare binary files in Linux?

    - by frustratedCmpNoLongerUser
I need to compare two binary files and get the output in the form <fileoffset-hex <file1-byte-hex <file2-byte-hex for every different byte. So if file1.bin is 00 90 00 11 in binary form and file2.bin is 00 91 00 10 I want to get something like 00000001 90 91 00000003 11 10 What is the easiest way to accomplish the goal? Standard tool? Some third-party tool? (Note: cmp -l should be killed with fire, it uses a decimal system for offsets and octal for bytes.)

  • Connect to wired and wireless networks at same time, Ubuntu

    - by Gary Chambers
Currently, I have a media PC running Ubuntu 10.04 that I am trying to connect via a wired network cable directly to a NAS box, and wirelessly to the router. This works no problem after I run sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart but I can't get both interfaces to come up on system startup. My /etc/network/interfaces file reads as follows: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 10.0.1.2 netmask 255.255.254.0 broadcast 10.0.1.255 network 10.0.1.0 auto wlan2 iface wlan2 inet dhcp As I say, I know this works, because I can get it to work by restarting the network interfaces, but I can't bring them both up on system startup. Does anyone know why this might be?

  • Weird behaviour with OpenVPN: can not connect to a few websites

    - by Gaby Solis
My OpenVPN server is Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS and openvpn version is 2.x My client is on Win 7. He can access most sites but not Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, groups.google.com, etc My server.conf is: local x.x.x.x port 1194 proto udp dev tun ca /etc/openvpn/keys/ca.crt cert /etc/openvpn/keys/server.crt key /etc/openvpn/keys/server.key dh /etc/openvpn/keys/dh1024.pem server 10.8.0.0 255.255.255.0 push "redirect-gateway def1" push "dhcp-option DNS 8.8.8.8" client-to-client keepalive 10 120 comp-lzo persist-key persist-tun status /etc/openvpn/keys/openvpn-status.log verb 4 I can access Youtube etc using SSH Tunnel + SOCKS Proxy, and the Ubuntu server can access all sites. so nothing is wrong with the Ubuntu server. With little information I can provide, I am not looking for a quck solution. How can I debug?

  • How do I insert a newline within a long formula using OpenOffice.org Math?

    - by Lekensteyn
I've the following formula: (x^6+x^4+x^2+x+1)(x^7+x+1) = x^13+x^11+x^9+x^8+x^7+ x^7+x^5+x^3+x^3+x^2+x+ x^6+x^4+x^2+x+1 = x^13+x^11+x^9+x^8+2x^7+x^6+x^5+x^4+2x^3+2x^2+2x+1 Putting this in OpenOffice.org Math causes every line be concatenated, which I want to avoid. I've already tried putting newline between the lines, but it adds a strange question mark in the formula. Using matrices did not work for me either. I want to achieve a nicely formatted formula like this one (taken from FIPS 197 pdf):

  • Problems serving SVN over HTTPS on Ubuntu 10.04

    - by odd parity
We've been experiencing some problems with our Subversion server after upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04. When trying to access a repository, regardless of client (I've tried git-svn and svn on Windows as well as svn on Ubuntu 10.04, from different computers and network locations), I get a 400 bad request. Here's the output from svn: svn: Server sent unexpected return value (400 Bad Request) in response to OPTIONS request for 'https://svn.example.org/svn/programs' Here are the relevant entries from the Apache logs (I'm running Apache 2.2): error.log [Mon Jun 14 11:29:31 2010] [error] [client x.x.x.x] request failed: error reading the headers ssl_access.log x.x.x.x - - [14/Jun/2010:11:29:28 +0200] "OPTIONS /svn/programs HTTP/1.1" 401 2643 "-" "SVN/1.6.6 (r40053) neon/0.29.0" x.x.x.x - - [14/Jun/2010:11:29:31 +0200] "ction-set/></D:options>OPTIONS /svn/programs HTTP/1.1" 400 644 "-" "SVN/1.6.6 (r40053) neon/0.29.0" If anyone has run into similar problems or could give me a pointer to track down the cause of this I'd be very grateful - I'd really like to avoid having to downgrade the box again.
